Biography

About

Miyuki Sasaki is a Professor in the Faculty of Education and Integrated Arts and Sciences at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, where she teaches courses in English and Applied Linguistics. She received a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has contributed chapters to books published by Multilingual Matters, Kluwer Academic, and Blackwell. Her articles have appeared in Language Learning, Language Testing, Journal of Second Language Writing, Journal of Pragmatics, International Review of Applied Linguistics, and Word. She was on the editorial board of TESOL Quarterly (2002-2005) and Local Chair of the Symposium on Second Language Writing when it was first held outside of the United States in 2007. Miyuki served on the TOEFL Committee of Examiners as its first Japanese member (2007-2011) and currently serves on the editorial boards of Language Testing (2004-) and Journal of Second Language Writing (2006-). Miyuki’s current research interests include the longitudinal development of first and second language writing ability, and strategy use and environmental effects on second language learning motivation.
